This show is from a previous year's festival

For this show, I, Jo Neary, will cherry pick my favourite characters and stand up routines on the train to Wales, to act as ballast for all the new stuff that no one has seen or judged yet.

This might include – a sexy dance to an inappropriate song, a woman with an annoying teenage voice (I promise you WILL recognise the type, they are everywhere), the old faithful tried and tested Lord Celia Johnson and her latest adventure with the Hoi Polloi, Kirstie Allsorts reclaiming our favourite hobbies and selling them back to us as well as Laurie Anderson, A Drunk Man Who Wants to Rewrite Brighton Rock and an impression of what a spoilt cat is really thinking.

Using no props or costumes, just her massive eyes and tiny voice, Jo will conjure up a warm world of misfits, outcasts and ne’er do wells and then go for chips. Here are some of things  that the papers have said about her previous shows:

“Thank heavens for Joanna Neary whose skewed clowning is gloriously different…sublimely funny” Bruce Dessau, The Evening Standard

“Hilarious dexterity…an astute and important show. Neary is the real thing” The Stage

‘All the characters are given a slightly crazed delivery and invested with an other-worldliness that sets her above your common-or-garden character comic. Quite brilliant ****’ Chortle

‘Each scene is infused with intricate details, layered by pinpoint writing and heightened with a highly polished performance. In a festival rife with frustratingly average character comics (both male and female), you should do yourself a favour and have a peek ****’ The List (Brian Donaldson)

‘Hilarious off-kilter talent’ The Sunday Telegraph

‘Neary is a character actress par excellence, not only are her characters well observed and immaculately performed, but they are well written and, most importantly, funny… A Joyce Grenfell of our age.’ The Guardian
