For the seventh consecutive year in a row (Okay, he didn’t do a show in 2012 as he was Best Man at a wedding, but he did turn up on the Sunday for Richard Herring and a curry so that should count for something. In fact in 2014 he did eight hours of new material, and none of this Mark Watson bullshit either where you just say whatever’s on your mind for as long as possible and then play a board game with Tim Key, it was eight separate hours of structured material. Okay not mega-structured, but structured enough. Plus he did a mega-bumper two-hour finale of his previous award nominated Edinburgh show and an encore of greatest hits. So let’s not go nit-picking about who didn’t do what in which year. He wanted to be there in 2012. He just didn’t want to let his friend down. The wedding was fine. He made a speech. Which if you think about it was sort of like new material and if he had done it in Mach rather than Woburn Abbey he would have been hailed a champ. But no, 2012 will forever go down in history as the year that “Helm didn’t bother”. As it turns out the speech split the room. Audiences are audiences wherever you go. You people absolutely make me sick) Nick brings some more new material and ramblings to Mach-fest. Whimsy at its absolute best.
