Welsh Government Gives Backing to Festival

The Welsh Government has thrown its support behind the Machynlleth Comedy Festival. After the successes of the first two years funding has been put in place to secure and expand the festival over the next three. Working closely with officers at the Major Events Unit a strategy was put in place to grow the festival organically that keeps the values of offering fantastic live comedy in intimate spaces at its core.

Festival Director, Henry Widdicombe, said “it was fantastic to work with officers at the Major Events Unit who understood why the festival was not only a unique event for Wales but for the UK and beyond. The support given by the Welsh Government will allow us to do all the things we’ve not been able to the last couple of years due to financial constraints. A lot of hard work has been put in by a lot of fantastic volunteers and this is a testament to that.”

The First Minister said “I’m delighted that we are able to support such a diverse range of events which makes the most of Wales’ culture, tradition and unique landscape.  One of the key principles of Event Wales, our Major Events Strategy, is that we should encourage a fair and equitable spread of major event opportunities across Wales by supporting a programme of Growth Events outside Cardiff.  We are also committed to support innovative, experimental and quirky events.”
